One at a time.
It’s true for hot dogs, monogamous relationships, and logistics-heavy-casino-robbing schemes.
It’s equally true for holidays.
So for most of November, I listen to the same old stuff I always listen to. I look forward to cooking a bunch of food for friends for Thanksgiving, as has been my and Amelia’s tradition since we moved to Portland.
Then on Black Friday, the dam breaks and the floodwaters of Christmas jubilee burst forth.
Amelia and I doubled down on Christmas spirit this year. Snow. Pine trees. Everything. On Friday, we drove into the forest and chopped down a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. (We had a permit!)
In the fading light, we uphilled at Timberline Ski Resort. Skiers bobbed past us as we chuffed up the steep slopes. Our only goal was to get on the snow and see how far we made it (not far). The skins beneath our skis caught the snow and allowed us to move up rather than down. That part of uphilling feels like magic.
On the dark drive home, we blasted Christmas music.
I’ve been playing around with recording footage of bike rides and outdoor exploits. The attached video is akin to a demo in song production — a lot of ideas but in need of fine-tuning. Still, hopefully more of these to come! Let me know what you think and what beginner editing/filming/etc mistakes I’m making.
As always, much love and happiest of holidays.
Steve
